Getting started with crypto — a beginner's first route
In short — getting started with crypto
If you've only just stepped into crypto, don't try to understand everything at once. It's enough to walk a short route: understand what it is, set up a wallet to receive and store crypto, work out where the crypto will come from (you buy it yourself or someone sends it to you), and learn to send. Each step has its own detailed walkthrough, and here we show the order and one rule that matters more than the rest.

Your first route
- First understand what this even is, because crypto is not one thing, and bitcoin, stablecoins and tokens work differently. Even a brief acquaintance with the basics reduces the risk of acting blind, so start with the article what is cryptocurrency.
- Set up a wallet to receive and store crypto. You need this in any case, both if you buy it yourself and if someone sends it to you, for example a salary, payment for work, or a transfer from family. What to choose, your own wallet or an exchange account, how a hot wallet differs from a cold one, and why everything rests on the seed phrase, is covered in the guide how to store crypto.
- Work out where the crypto will come from. If you buy it yourself, the order of buying, identity verification and payment methods is covered by the guide how to buy crypto. If someone sends it to you, it is enough to give the sender your address and the correct network, and how receiving and payment for work work is covered by the guide how to send crypto and the scenario how to get paid in crypto, while transfers from family are covered in the scenario how to send money to family abroad.
- Learn to send yourself, because sooner or later you will need to transfer crypto, and a confirmed transfer is usually irreversible, and one of the main technical traps is a wrongly chosen network. The mechanics are covered by the guide how to send crypto.
